INTERNATIONAL WRITING WORKSHOP

1st call for international writing workshop “Enhance research skills
and publication capacity of early career researchers from local
universities in ASEAN”
Dear Early-Career Researchers (ECRs) from the Southeast Asian countries
We would like to invite you to participate in a three-day (in-person) International Writing
Workshop funded by the British Academy (UK), organized at Ton Duc Thang University,
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from 30 June to 2 July 2025.
Participation is free, and travelling expenses and accommodation for the workshop will
be supported by the funder.
This Workshop aims to provide essential training on research writing skills to enhance the
research capacity of early-career researchers in ASEAN. The workshop is also a valuable
opportunity for ongoing networking and collaboration among ECRs in Southeast Asia and
with well-established scholars from the UK. The sustained collaboration of these groups
will enhance the likelihood that more research outputs will be published in high-quality
journals and more research grants will be funded.
Planned program
Day 1: How to conduct research in social science
Day 2: Improve critical writing skills; How to publish your research (publication standard
and practice)
Day 3: Writing and presenting your research papers.

Participants’ selection
The participants are from Southeast Asian countries: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia,
Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, etc.
The participants must be early career researchers (within 10 years since completed PhD).
To enhance equality, diversity and inclusion, the priorities are given to ECRs (but not
limited): women, ECRs with disabilities, ECRs from a rural or remote area, ECRs having
schooling in a non-English language, being a first-generation graduate, being from a
religious minority, or working for local universities.
An application should include:
(i) An abstract and introduction of the working paper
(ii) A curriculum vitae and brief of publication plan
(iii) A writing plan ECRs will complete during the project period
(iv) A letter of recommendation or support from the head of the department or university
to ensure ECRs will be allowed sufficient dedicated time to take part in the project if their
applications are successful.

Prof. Ferry Jie
Professor Ferry Jie is a Visiting Professor from Edith Cowan University, Australia
graduated from his doctorate study from The University of Sydney in 2008. His Ph.D thesis is Supply Chain Analysis in the Australian Beef Industry.
Dr. Jie is currently a Professor at School of Business and Law, Edith Cowan University. Previously, he was a Senior Lecturer and taking a program coordinator role in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) at RMIT University. He was managing and coordinating the undergraduate program in LSCM at RMIT from 2015 to 2016.
Professor Ferry Jie has maintained a high quality of research throughout his academic career including international scholarly leadership in the areas of supply chain management and logistics, including being invited to be the keynote speaker and to give public lectures at symposiums and international conferences in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, UK and Australia.
From 2015 to now, published more than 52 refereed journal articles – including 21 articles in Q1 (A ranked journal ABDC journal ranking) and 12 articles in Q2, and 18 refereed conference papers. Furthermore, Dr. Jie has received research grants/awards adding up to over $1.6 million between 2010 and 2020. Dr. Jie has professional and community engagement activities to contribute significantly to improving the university’s reputation through contribution to the wider community.
